When I first met Whit, I couldn’t get away from him fast enough. He’s a hockey player, and I hate everything to do with the sport that once broke my heart.
But I can’t help feeling sorry for the guy. He’s newly out and desperate to meet someone, but his eagerness seems to scare potential hook-ups away.
Agreeing to be his wingman should’ve been simple. Watching him flirt with other guys made things complicated.
Whit challenges me in every aspect of my life, from my hatred of hockey to the new questions I’m asking myself. Like why a straight man suddenly can’t stop thinking about kissing another guy.
I think the answer lies somewhere on Whit’s lips…
I so enjoyed this story. Whit gives off such golden retriever vibes, he’s just the cutest. All ready to date for the first time, and being so clueless. Watching him crash and burn in the beginning is quite adorable really.
Rainn kind of feels for him, and somehow ends up taking Whit under his wing to be his dating guide. A “straight” guy, helping a gay guy date. There is a joke in there, trust me. When seeing Whit trying to get with other men, leaves Rainn with a lot of questions for himself.
I do love the natural flow of this story, and exploring of sexuality. The focus is very much on what feels good, and right, less on labels. Everything is new to both of them, and that whole discovering journey gets us some hot, and intense scenes.
There is of course some personal drama. Rainn is still stuck on losing his Plan A for life, and needs a wake up call to move forward. This new chapter definitely forces him to face reality, and even his emotions.
Both guys have strong personalities, and I loved the energy and interactions between them. I truly adore Whit. He’s such a happy go lucky guy, and Rainn balances everything out quite nicely. Definitely recommend it, and Headstrong can be read as a standalone in this series.
